TRIUNE GOD

Father - Son - Holy Spirit

This concept we call "The Trinity" is something of a mystery, yet if we don't get too caught up in trying to analyse it, we can see there are other things that have this triune (three in one) nature - where three parts equal one whole...

We ourselves are triune - we are physical, psychological and spiritual.

Matter is solid, liquid, gas - in it's most obvious forms...

Space is also seen as length, breadth and height.

Time is past, present and future - and eternity touches us in the very present - in that, if we die right at this very moment, we will be in eternity...

And we can use St Patrick's example of the three leaf clover - one leaf, three parts...

IN THE BIBLE

There are a number of places where the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit appear in the same verse in the New Testament:

Jesus asked "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?" Luke 11:13

"And I (Jesus) will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; [Even] the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you." John 14:18

"But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, [even] the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:" John 15:26

"For through him (Jesus Christ) we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father." Ephesians 2:18

"Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied." 1Peter 1:2

My own thoughts and feelings about the Trinity are:

I see God as our Father - the Creator - the best Father that has ever been, in the way he cares and thinks and plans and hopes for us, His children.

I see God - in the form of Jesus - a real Jewish man, not super tall or film star attractive - but so alive, so loving in a personal way - like a brother for now, but also as someone who has a binding agreement with us all to become one with us in a mysterious heavenly marriage, in due time.

I see the Holy Spirit as one who is so present that we don't always see the work that is being done in us and for us and through us - the protection, the desire to help and strengthen us, to comfort us - to be there for us and others around us... I want to see - perceive the Holy Spirit more.
