COMMUNICATION STAGES

You cannot be friends with everyone, but in our shyness, or pride, we can easily end up with no friends, or the wrong sort of friends...
This list is the natural way of having friends, and if you want to know how many at each stage, you can't go past Jesus of Nazareth, who had three very close friends, a dozen of so close friends, 70 friends, and thousands of aqaintances...
Enjoy!

STEP 1: Greetings, pleasantries...

"Hullo!" "Hi!" "Gidday!" "Gidday mate!" ...Good day, good morning, good afternoon, good evening.... ...How'd you do, kiaora, tena koe/ koutou, welcome, greetings earthlings! Say one of these on first meeting each other for the day.... - 0r to acquaintances Farewells: Good bye, 'bye, see you (round), spot you (later), catch you (later), later, ta ta, hurray

STEP 2: Passing on facts and information...

"How are you?" ...How you doin'? "Good thanks, how are you?" ...Great! cool, all right, not so bad "Hullo, it's nice weather isn't it?" ..Hot, eh? Isn't it cold! How 'bout yourself?" ...How's the wife/ hubby/ kids, family, garden, farm, business.... "Do you have the time?" ... Got the time mate? What's the time please? "Eight o'clock" ...'Bout eight. I make it round eight. Eight on the dot

STAGE 3: Sharing ideas, opinions and feelings

"What do you think of the coalition government?" "Not too sure, guess we'll wait and see." "I really like this new song! "Me too, it makes me cry every time I hear it!" "The maths teacher doesn't check our homework!" "Oh dear - what can we do about it? "

Politics, religion, books, music, the arts, TV, films, education, finances, clothes etc, etc
Share these with good friends and family

STAGE 4: Intimate, heart to heart communication
- being open and honest about the really important things in your life...

"I'm so afraid of making a mistake" "I so appreciate the way you encourage me" "I'm feeling quite upset about my workmates" "My biggest dream is to sing my songs in front of a big crowd"

This is shared with close friends and family
