These spell "church" as Jesus means it to be...
Moving together... How "Can two walk together, except they be agreed?" Amos 3:3
The principle of synergy is that two people can achieve more together, than two people working seperately.
King Solomon of old put it this way: "Two are better than one; because they will have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but it is bad for him who is alone when he falls; for he does not have another to help him up. Again, if two lie together, then they create heat: but how can one be warm alone? And if an attacker prevails against one, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. Eccles. 4:9-12
It could be that more harm has been done to the Kingdom of God by disunity in the church, than any other thing.
When leaders become interested more in building their own kingdom than God's, disunity results. Considering that Christianity is first and formost about loving God and each other, disagreements about doctrine should not result in disunity. Instead, we have church splits, a multitude of movements and little churches, and during the Dark Ages, Christians went as far as burning each other at the stake, over doctrine. Doctrine - the following of God's Word - is vital. But love is the first law, and without it, nothing else counts!
Why should we expect God to help us build our churches without it?
Confusion comes when UNITY is misunderstood. It is not unity of thinking. (General Patton said that if everyone is thinking alike, no-one is thinking at all!) It is unity of purpose that binds us together.
What is our purpose? - To love God, to love others, and to love ourselves. "For all the law is fulfilled in one sentence, even this; You shall love your neighbour as yourself."
In fact this scripture in context says it all...
"For, brothers and sisters, you have been called to freedom; only don't use freedom for an occasion to be self-centred, but serve one another in love. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even this; You shall love your neighbour as yourself. But if you bite and devour one another, take heed that you are not consumed by one another. This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lusts of human weakness." Galatians 5:13-16
We need to remember that last command - we can only live as Christians when we depend on the help of the Holy Spirit.
Relationships are God's purpose, and ours. - Love actually defines God, it is such an important attitude...
"He that does not love does not know God; for God is love." 1 John 4:8
"And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love; and he that lives in love lives in God, and God in him." 1 John 4:16
Everything God does involves relationships, and His desire is that we would love Him and each other. Eleven times "Love one another" is found:
"A new commandment I give to you, That you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another." John 13:34
"This is my commandment, That you love one another, as I have loved you." John 15:12, John 15:17; and "Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loves another has fulfilled the law." Romans 13:8...
And if you want to look these up: 1 Thes. 4:9; 1 Peter 1:22; 1 John 3:11; 1 John 3:23; 1 John 4:7;1 John 4:11-12; 2 John 1:5.
Ministry is us being God on the earth - to be God's hands and feet and heart and mind - to be instruments of His miracle working power - to be the mouthpiece that spreads the Good News of peace toward man.
